Exploring Kiruna: Sweden’s Northernmost Gem in Euro Truck Simulator 2
Hey there, fellow truckers! It’s me, Arrow, and I’m thrilled to share some exciting news from SCS Software about their latest blog post diving into the creation of Kiruna for the Nordic Horizons DLC in Euro Truck Simulator 2. Buckle up as we take a virtual trip to Sweden’s northernmost town, a place that’s as unique as it gets!
SCS Software has given us a sneak peek into Kiruna, a town located 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. This isn’t just any town—it’s a place where you can experience two months of midnight sun in the summer and catch the mesmerizing northern lights from autumn to winter. Talk about a bucket-list destination! Kiruna may not be huge in population, but it’s packed with character, surrounded by breathtaking forests, tundra, rivers, and countless lakes. Plus, it’s near Sweden’s highest peak, Kebnekaise, and home to the world’s largest underground iron ore mine.
Speaking of that mine, SCS Software is pulling out all the stops to make it a standout feature in the game. They’re crafting it as the largest custom depot in ETS2 history—and the first one underground! With over 130 years of history, this mine churns out enough iron ore daily to build six Eiffel Towers. That’s mind-blowing! As truckers, we’ll get to deliver cargo both above ground and deep underground, navigating a complex layout with the help of a detailed diagram and custom signs. It’s going to be a challenging but thrilling experience.
Kiruna’s economy revolves around mining, and its impact is so massive that parts of the town are being relocated for safety. SCS Software is capturing this transformation by recreating the new city center, located three kilometers east of the original. They’re meticulously designing landmark buildings, including the new town hall with its historic clock tower, which has been carefully restored and moved from its old spot. The attention to detail here is incredible, and I can’t wait to drive through this revamped area.
Beyond the mine and city center, there’s plenty more to explore. We’ll be hauling cargo to a railway terminal, a construction site, a recycling depot, and other local industries. Whether you’re weaving through the new town or tackling the underground mine, Kiruna promises to be a visually stunning and immersive addition to ETS2.
SCS Software’s passion for bringing real-world locations to life shines through in this preview. Kiruna’s unique blend of natural beauty, industrial might, and cultural transformation makes it a must-visit in the Nordic Horizons DLC. If you’re as excited as I am, make sure to add the DLC to your Steam Wishlist and keep up with SCS Software on their socials as well as our social media platforms for more updates.
So, what do you think, truckers? Are you ready to hit the roads of Kiruna and take on that massive underground mine? Let me know your thoughts, and until then, happy haulin’!
