Exploring Moline in the Upcoming Illinois DLC for American Truck Simulator
Moline’s roots trace back to the mid-1800s, when its prime riverfront location fueled its growth as a hub for manufacturing and transport. As part of the Quad Cities region, Moline has evolved into a dynamic community that balances its rich history with its modern role in the Midwest. SCS Software captures this essence by highlighting Moline’s industrial heritage, particularly its connection to one of the world’s largest agricultural machinery production facilities. In the game, players can engage with the harvester works depot, a major hub for picking up and delivering agricultural equipment, reflecting the city’s economic backbone.
Beyond industry, Moline’s landmarks add depth to its in-game portrayal. One standout is Bridge Point 485, originally a testing facility for the Montgomery Elevator Company, complete with its iconic tower once used for high-speed elevator trials. This distinctive structure stands proudly along the city’s riverfront, adding a touch of historical character. Another notable spot is the Western Illinois University Quad Cities campus, located along the aptly named River Drive, which runs parallel to the Mississippi River. These details make Moline feel alive and authentic.
SCS Software also included a stretch of the Great River Road, an All-American Road celebrated for its cultural and scenic significance. This route showcases the Mississippi’s beauty and history, offering players a chance to drive along a nationally recognized roadway. Additionally, Moline’s cultural side shines through with two notable churches, one of which is a former Scottish Rite Cathedral now serving as a local theater—a nod to the city’s evolving identity.
Quinten, one of SCS Software’s Map Designers, described recreating Moline as “an interesting puzzle.” With Davenport, Iowa, just across the river, the team had to carefully balance the two cities to feel connected yet distinct. Their focus was on capturing Moline’s industrial legacy, riverfront charm, and unique landmarks without overwhelming the area.
I’m genuinely excited to explore Moline in the Illinois DLC, and I hope you are too! If this glimpse into the Prairie State has you eager to hit the virtual roads, be sure to add the Illinois DLC to your Steam Wishlist. Until then, keep on truckin’!
