Exploring South Dakota's Truck Stops in American Truck Simulator

As a fan of American Truck Simulator, I’m always excited about the new expansions that SCS Software releases. Today, I’m taking you on a journey through the upcoming South Dakota expansion, with a special focus on the truck stops that make this state so unique. The SCS Software team has once again pulled out all the stops to recreate South Dakota’s truck stops as realistically as possible, just like they did in Illinois. These stops aren’t just places to rest and refuel—they’re opportunities to soak in the distinct atmosphere of the surroundings. Let’s hit the road together!

A Tour of the Truck Stops

In South Dakota, you’ll find a variety of truck stops scattered across the state. Whether you’re driving through towns like Buffalo, Spearfish, Martin, or Murdo, each location has something special to offer. Below, I’ll highlight a few standout stops you can look forward to as a driver.

Rapid City: Industrial Views

In Rapid City, South Dakota’s second-largest city, there’s a truck stop located close to the highway. What makes this spot stand out is the view of a massive industrial complex. It gives you the feeling of being right in the middle of the action while you take a break.

Wall: Dino Greetings by the Badlands

One of the most striking truck stops is in the town of Wall, named after the “natural wall” of rock formations near Badlands National Park. Here, a giant dinosaur statue steals the show, proudly watching over US-14. It’s a memorable blend of nature and quirky charm that you won’t soon forget.

Sioux Falls: Big City, Big History

In Sioux Falls, the state’s largest city, you’ll find a truck stop along I-90. Nearby, there’s also a truck dealership and a driver staffing agency. Make sure to visit the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial, a powerful tribute to the state’s military history and a place for reflection.

Huron: Agriculture in the Spotlight

The truck stop in Huron is located near Ravine Park Lake, offering a peaceful setting. You’ll also notice farming equipment nearby, a nod to South Dakota’s deep-rooted agricultural traditions. It’s a reminder of the hard work that keeps this state thriving.

Watertown: Cultural Vibes

In Watertown, the truck stop is situated close to the iconic Art Center building, a cultural landmark that gives the city its unique identity. It’s a refreshing change to step out of your truck and take in a bit of art and culture.

Bison: A Touch of History

Finally, there’s Bison, a town founded in 1907 and named after the American bison that once roamed these plains in great numbers. The truck stop here has a unique vibe thanks to a small regional airport nearby. It’s a subtle but distinctive touch that makes this stop memorable.

Why I’m Excited for This Expansion

SCS Software has once again shown its talent for capturing the essence of a region with this South Dakota expansion. Each truck stop feels like a little world of its own, with stories and details that make driving in American Truck Simulator so addictive. While the expansion is still in development and some details may change before release, I can’t wait to get behind the wheel and explore these locations myself.

If you’re as excited as I am, don’t forget to add the South Dakota DLC to your Steam wishlist. Want to stay in the loop with the latest updates? Follow us on X, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, and YouTube, or TikTok. Until the next ride—keep on trucking!
